Creativity & Mom Backpacks
This episode is all about how we're doing this whole mom gig while trying to keep other creative projects going. We are both fully into this whole family of four thing and in need of a cocktail so...
Gin Hound
adapted from Food52
makes 2 cocktails
- 3/4 cup fresh-squeezed grapefruit juice
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
- 1 ounce sweet vermouth (what exactly is vermouth? can you tell us, listeners?)
- 4 ounces gin
Combine grapefruit, lemon and lime juices together. Fill a shaker with ice and add the juices, vermouth and gin. Shake, shake, shake! Cocktail can be served neat or over ice and garnished with a wedge of citrus.
We share what our kiddos are into, and what the best and most challenging things are about parenthood for us lately. We also each share a parenting triumph and parenting fail inspired by the podcast, Mom and Dad Are Fighting, and our current strengths and weaknesses as parents.
Moms helping other moms is our favorite, so we're also sharing some of our best parenting recommendations. Erica highly recommends the Fubbles No-Spill Bubble Bucket, and the books The Connected Child (for adoptive parents of older children), and the children's books Not All Princesses Dress in Pink and Every Little Thing
Kelsey highly recommends painting with water outside, the childrens' books Ox-Cart Man and Good People Everywhere, and the Little Partners Learning Tower
On the creative work front, we talk about how we're fitting in our projects, what we simply don't have time for lately, and how motherhood impacts our creativity.
In current obsessions, Erica is rocking a stylish mom backpack these days, similar to one of these, and Kelsey is reading lots of poetry lately.
In neighborhood news, Kelsey's front yard seems to be a refuse magnet, and there is a neighborhood phantom baby that has us both running to our baby monitors.
P.S. We're speaking at Mom 2.0 Summit tomorrow in Scottsdale on The Power of Podcasting. Come say "hey neighbor!"
